The Story of Seoul

As you guys already knew, my second semester has been finished (well, the fact is the grades are not even out yet). Weeks ago before the semester exam itself, I had to face the reality that my journey to another travel will begin. I applied for a summer program which is also partial scholarship (the flight ticket is not included) for the summer holiday. And here we go, two days ago I touched Seoul down!

Seoul as part of South Korea is well - known with its crowd and modern buildings and technologies and sophisticated people that work professionally. First time I got in the Incheon airport was totally unimaginable. I just arrived and it felt like I saw all of those people that are tuned in the Korean drama or band. Gladly, me and Mbak Nisa (one of another UGM student that received the scholarship) got there with two humongous size of luggage. Oh, and just for info my luggage was overweight when they measure it at the local airport in my town Semarang. I was in safe zone though to overcome my not-very-good-situation by upsizing the maximum lbs of my luggage. And yeah, I made it safely from Jakarta - Kuala Lumpur -Seoul.

First day of Seoul

Seoul is a populated by nice people ever :)
We were out of the bus when finally the bus speaker says something in Korean and then she says "Dongdaemun". To get there all you needed was taking the bus that the transport info center at Incheon suggested us to take. We stopped the bus and we had no idea where to heading. Looking at the map (which is all written in Korean), we were at the end of our hope. Our own journey was totally begun. We asked people around and they responded very well, they tried to find the most accurate information from their galaxy notes, tabs, or even the sIII which is like the most sophisticated one. Anyway, they were failed to give information. I think it was because of the one way communication, you know. Then, there is this old man or "harabuji" that came to us and spoke in English (finally!) He helped us and recommended a different place which he said was a lot better than the place that we booked online. He took us with busway for free and we reached the place. Although, issue came when we had to carry our super duper huge luggage on the stairs. We almost fainted over that, that was pretty painful, and definitely not gonna try that again. Anyway, we got into the place and it was very nice place with one room for both of us and the design of the place was kinda neat because it represents the old style of Korean house in the middle of the downtown. The "harabuji" left us and we gave him food to say thank's. The price to stay for the place was a lot more expensive than the one that we booked. But it was worth it for the free wifi, foods, and kitchen that we used. The lady that take care of the place or the "ahjuman" was very nice too. She'd help us if we found any difficulties (which means a lot).
We got pretty whipped out of the airplane and we got jetlagged, so after we took shower, we straightly went to bed for a couple hours nap. By the evening started to appear, we got up and took a little walk down there. Bytheway, our place was at Pi run dong. There were foods, markets, and shops around the corner. It was a very great place to stay. We finished our pretty long walk and I met lots of people got out at night and got drunk after worked. I think that's one of the common culture there. So, they would be done with drinking and hald-drunkly walking down the streets. That was kind of creepy though. Not like Seoul becoming unsafe. It was still very secured, however when you got that annoyed feeling by weird people around you, yepp that was totally what happened :)

Second day and next days of Seoul Journey

What would we say? Seoul is uh-mazing :)
We spent the next days ahead in Seoul. Visited some places that we could only see in movies before, like Tower, palace, museums. Even when we got into the "green bus" which is typical Korean buses and when we walked down to the small ally by the neighborhood seemed so Korean to us. So mesmerizing we could only say.

The foods are everywhere, though they are not that suitable for our tongues. Let's say the goods one include porks or any kind of things that we're not supposed to have as Muslims. So, apparently we just asked to every kind of vendor or street markets that sold the foods like real tourists "fish?" or often we asked with mimics of the animals. So funny and yet normal, I guess. One day we went to one place for shopping, called Insa-dong. Got so many stuffs and we met a guy who sold cheap stuffs to us and he even gave us discounts for almost everything. So awesome! Once we walked down the street and there were this man selling "dragon beard" food, it was like "kue mochi" in Indonesia. Anyway, this food is good and the way they attract everyone to look at him. He even knew some Bahasa Indonesia which were so making me and Mbak Nisa even more attracted to look at those.

Then we saw a lot of shops for make up and face with the Korean Brand, like Misha, The Face Shop, Etude, and many more. They are pretty cheap compares to the one that they sell in Indonesia. They offered several good deals that women cannot ignore at all. Anyway, haven't I told you yet that Korean girls in Seoul (and even boys) are so sophisticated in dressing? They dress up almost everytime and everywhere. You cannot find simple kind of style once you walk in the Seoul streets. One more thing that attract me the most is the stigma of Koreans who love about appearance, I'd say somehow yes since there are many many mirrors in every possible corner. Can you believe? You don't need to bring any mirror because it's Korea! :D

Last day of Seoul

It was a really great morning after a good sleep that we had in ahjuman's house. Everything was so peaceful until the birds that Ahjuman have for pets are still half-way-awake and did not do chirping at all (they usually do). So, we went into the kitchen and ate bread plus jam for breakfast. What funny since the first day we stayed there was the breads and everything that ahjuman kept on the fridge. It's weird somehow because people hardly put bread in the fridge. Well, but we use toaster afterwards, so yeah I could get along.

Then we spent sometimes in the several places to just had our sorta last walk in Seoul. We already figured out some stuffs like the bus that we should take to train station. Anyway, for the next four weeks I stayed in Daejeon, which was like the fifth biggest city in South Korea. It was like two hours journey with regular train (KORAIL), and one hour if you take the KTX (fast train). I chose the cheaper one, so I went on two hours journey. We stepped out of the Seoul by using train so we went to the station first. It was huge station full of great technologies and people. Many young men were in uniform for the military purpose training. Most of them are either done or almost starting the training, so it was not a huge shock when they met their girls there.

Several weeks, ago: apology and getting busy.

Oh my God.
I feel like a total humongous fat liar, ever.

Since, I already got the words to keep the blog updated and stuff. But it seems like I didn't make it right to release several posts that I should've posted in this half semester. Anyway, here I am, facing the summer paradise. The holiday atmosphere is here and the plans are scheduled (almost). Unfortunately, I have to make my summer productive enough to finally realize that I only have two weeks left and they are not even free. I have several "permanent stuffs" that are jotted down in my list and they are due these two last weeks.

Wait up, I haven't told you about what I will possibly do for my summer and why I call this two week as a phase, the last one to reach the real summer? The reason is the summer program. I already decided and ensured my heart and my mind and obviously my parents to turn my summer as an unforgettable one. Summer at college should be both amazingly fun and also creatively beneficial for your future. Thus, there I go, Korea and India. Two countries that are still part of the Asia, if you take a second to put a glare on your map or globe.

So, why Korea and India? Just so you guys know, I'm going there with two different backgrounds. The first one is Korea which is a summer program and is located in one of the town in South Korea, Daejeon. The program itself will be held in one of the university there. And yes, I will explain more by the next postings. They will totally describe about what I do there.

India, first of all. It's a pretty famous country in Indonesia, since years ago. Back then, people would watch Indian movies for hours and got attached to the emotions. I was that one of those people, anyway. Well, India is a decent country to go and a place where every friend that I have from the western part of the world usually will love to learn 'yoga' and such meditations things. But that's not the main reason I go for India. I'm going with AIESEC which is a global organization that include the professional and students as the members and work on the international path work. Anyway, the AIESEC provides the projects and from the countries all over the world. I was included now as a member in AIESEC UGM and regarding to the project aspect and also the time, my choice was finally made. I chose India for HIV projects which I think a pretty delicate issue nowadays.

And yes, I've passed those hard days to get visa done by time I had to leave. I've passed the hard (and yet still) to cope with the absence of some people that I needed to meet up. I've passed those very rough moments (well, I'm still) with the person that I adore. And, ohwell time will answer everything. But it doesn't mean I rely on the time, I have to use the patience and passion. Let's see how this journey is gonna end up with.

With love and virtual kiss,
Hanadia

Homey towney? Finalley! :3

20 April 2012
  • Has passed those hectic days after the midterm-tests. Anyway I have to share that I am now a formal Freshman student of International Relations in Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta is such a beautiful town in Indonesia and very popular with its tourism aspect. Tourists and travelers have arrived and gone so many times to enjoy the beauty of this town. Obviously not a humongous town, however the foods are everywhere and definitely affordable. Since I am a college student and need more energy to keep up with those activities, so yes I am attached with culinary traveling in this town. (I'm gonna definitely post some about foods in this town! :) ) The foods brought us further away from the college, if you realize! :p Entering this university itself made me have to face dilemmas. I already finished my school year in USA (exchange student) then I got back in my town Semarang - finishing my high school. Then here came the time when I had to see about college - next level of my life - the bridge that brings me to future. True that high school never ends, but college is definitely significant too. Fortunately, I got accepted in one of a college in Netherland. I was so excited, I was so glad that I didn't have to study for college entrance exam in Indonesia (SNMPTN). I know I was such a knuckle head for that, but you know what being a year away from school in Asia and tasted those sweetly easy subjects in school were amazing and made you forget about the whole things of subjects difficulties of school in Indonesia, especially when you are in Science class. Anyway, I got accepted and they set several deadlines to take care of the administrations and everything. Frankly, it was so short in time and my mom was sorta not letting me to stay abroad again, since she wanted me to just at least finish my undergraduate degree in Indonesia. Oh well, I waited for several days then the announcement of national college entrance via invitation in Indonesia (SNMPTN Undangan) came out. I got accepted in Gadjah Mada University (UGM). I was standing in between two roads, Netherland or Indonesia. Two countries that have similarities and related historical backgrounds. UGM for International Relations or Saxion University for Tourism and scholarship. Comparing those were so hard until I got insomnia (well until now, so I guess that won't be the reason I got insomnia). In the end, I chose UGM. I guess closer to family, friends, my people and I think I already applied the quotes of "you can learn and study no matter where and when."

  • Very very very glad to be back in the hometown, since ever. I am that type of girl that doesn't get homesick that often. I miss things back home and blah and blah do happen to me sometimes. But recalling that sometimes then it won't be a huge matter to me. I'm glad to be back in hometown, but not really sad when I cannot make it to be in hometown. Well, I guess you get the point. But yes, I miss meeting up with my brothers and my mom and my dad and I love the facilities that are not provided in my dorm or the foods that are not as fancy as the home-made-foods home. Those are things that usually keeping me going back and forth, Semarang - Yogyakarta. The things that are worth the tiredness and the times. The moments that I only will spend with my friends and best people in hometown are obviously will be only available in my hometown. The places that I have spent years and years plus the memories that passed by are there no matter what. The only thing to enjoy them? Spending sometimes back in hometown, with the best people. :)

Lawang Sewu, Semarang

  • Well, I must make my own agendas of things to do in hometown. What sucks the most is when you have those plans but you have no idea how to make them into reality because the times are limited and so is the money. Now, I've got back and the thing that I firstly do is enjoying my air-conditioned-room plus its wi-fi and its amazing sounds system. But I really wanna spend some times more with those best people. I have to set the priority list of what I should do. Second thing first, after done enjoying my room, I gotta do the assignments. I'm such a bad deadliner. People do procrastinate and do their best in their last times. But me? Not gonna work, except that's how the time limit of the task.

I have shared some words in the short story of how I spend this sorta-longdistance-life between Yogyakarta and Semarang. I do enjoy it though. I have two towns, or actually three with Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I will share more and more and keep my blog updated. Hopefully (regarding to this hectic college life). Sigh. Amen to that.

Just Some Words to Start All Over Again

Finally!
It's been very and quite long time, I haven't updated on my old blog. And when I re-read everything. It's kinda cheesy and nausy, so yes I decided to embrace the new fact that I should really make a new blog. Well, this amazing-brandnew-blog (amen to that) is very different compares to other journals of life or such things (e.g. diary), but in the end it might be similar because this blog contains all of the craziness an stupidities that I usually do in my life (I eat, I love, I jump, I breathe - but might be differently to the others :p). But yeah, please forget the fact that this blog might be a little narcissistic, and another please to remember that people should share about their stories and this blog will do its job to tell you about my daily stories (could have its ups and downs or should have its boredom and excitements), my moments (you know when I get nothing to do, this could be a good media to kill those times), and the information that I have (I'm not a secret agent, but I do will tell you every possibly great infos to share).
Gosh, I seem to be nervous by the time I type all of these words.
So, go nuts and happy blogging, for me and for you all! :)
